outliner Facts

  1. Using Sorting by Columns will change the order of Outliner documents in a column but does NOT change the Binder order.

  2. Moving documents in the Outliner view DOES change the Binder order of your Project.

  3. Outliner columns are saved per split when using the Split Editor view. (Each Outliner can have a different arrangement of columns displayed in each Editor window. (See the Image above.)

  4. The Outliner will NOT display any Images in the Outliner Synopsis for a document. The Outliner will display ONLY TEXT even if the Inspector Synopsis displays an image.

  5. The Outliner Footer bar is identical to the Corkboard’s Footer bar on the left and differs on the right side.

  6. The Editor must be in a split view for the Autoload button to be active and open selections in the other window of the split Editor view or an open Copyholder.

  7. Filtering functions exactly the same way in either the Outliner or Corkboard view.

  8. Single or multiple items from the Outliner can be dragged to copy between Projects just like with the Binder. You can also drag an item(s) from the Outliner into the Binder to change the Binder order, and this will be reflected when you reopen the Outliner view.

  9. When you start sorting a list of documents with both folders and subdocuments using columns of Metadata, then the Outliner will immediately present you with a flat list of all the documents currently in the Outliner. This flat view will not change till you leave the Outliner view.

  10. Named documents in the Outliner will have a bold title by default, with the synopses in a smaller and slightly grayer font.

  11. As in the Binder, you can select multiple documents in the Outliner and change the Label, Status, Custom Metadata, Section Type and Icon types values for all of these at once, but not the Compile Status.

  12. You can show the Compile Status as an Outliner column, but you can only change one document at a time, NOT multiple ones.

  13. When you have a split Editor view, you can scroll the non-active Editor window by holding the Alt Key and using up and down arrows on the keyboard. This command DOES NOT WORK if the other Editor window is displaying the Corkboard or Outliner interface.

  14. The Auto-load button will automatically open any selection you click in the other Editor window or a Copyholder view (second click). You MUST be in a split editor view for this to function. This loads from the Outliner (or Corkboard) view in the left half of the split to right side split in the Editor either into the Editor window or the Copyholder if present on the LEFT (or same side of the Outliner (or Corkboard). With a split view of the Editor and a Copyholder on the left side you can choose either to use the Autoload button with.

  15. To fully expand the Outliner, use the Keyboard Shortcut Alt +].

  16. To fully collapse the Outliner, use the Keyboard Shortcut Alt +[.

  17. If you need to change the Labels, Status, Section Type, or Custom Metadata of multiple documents in the Outliner at once, the easiest way is select the items and use the Right Click menu to change the values.

  18. Column settings can be set individually for each Editor window in a split view.

  19. A particular arrangement of Outliner Columns can be saved to recall later with the Layout Manager, by creating a new layout while the Outliner view is visible on the computer.

  20. You can Merge documents together even in the Outliner, by choosing them and using the Menu command Documents > Merge or the Keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + M.

  21. However, you cannot Split documents in the Outliner view.
